Pandacap: Part 6 - Extras
There are a couple other areas of the Pandacap application that
are probably worth drawing attention to.
Podcasts
First, there's the Podcasts section of the inbox. RSS/Atom feed
items that have attached audio files will be sent here (instead of
Text Posts):
For each podcast episode, Pandacap shows both a direct download
button (for the .mp3) and a "split" button. The "split" button
tells Pandacap to download the file, split it into five-minute
chunks, re-encode each chunk as a low-quality .wma file, and
return all those .wma files in a .zip archive. This can be useful
for burning a podcast to a gapless audio CD, if your CD player
doesn't support MP3 CDs (or if you want to use the skip track
button as a quick way to jump forward in the episode). In most
cases, though, burning the MP3 file to a CD would be quicker and
easier.
DeviantArt home feed
On the home page, when logged in, there's a button that lets you
view the same feed that appears on the DeviantArt home page when
logged in:
These posts are recommended by DeviantArt's algorithm and are
shown in pages of 20 items each, just like the Pandacap gallery
and inbox.
ActivityPub favorites
The public page on Pandacap that collects the user's ActivityPub
favorites isn't limited to just pictures - it can be used for any
ActivityPub post that Pandacap can read, and this includes Lemmy
threads. It also includes the alt text of image posts, which can
be useful when the original server is no longer available (or has
moved the file). Pandacap doesn't apply updates to posts on this
public favorites page, and it doesn't store remote images in its
own database.
